Mfangano Foundation Enjoy Standout Weekend at Mbita Sports Tournament
It was a memorable weekend for Mfangano Foundation Football Academy at the Mbita Sports Tournament, with all three teams entered delivering strong performances against tough regional competition.
The headline result came from the first team, who fought their way through to the final. After a hard-fought campaign, the game finished 1-1 after normal time, with the tie eventually decided on penalties. While the result didn't go the team's way on the day, reaching the final was a huge achievement and a testament to the character, cohesion, and hours of preparation the players have put in both on and off the pitch.
There was further cause for celebration elsewhere in the tournament. The junior boys' team impressed with a run to the quarter-finals, a strong showing given the level of competition and the age group's ongoing development. Their performances throughout the tournament reflected the growing strength of the academy's youth pathway.
Not to be outdone, the women's team also reached the quarter-finals, continuing to build on the momentum and progress the squad has shown in recent months. Their run in the tournament is another marker of the steady growth of women's football at the academy.
Taken together, these results represent one of the strongest collective showings by Mfangano Foundation teams at a single tournament — a reflection of the work being put in across every age group and squad at the academy.
The club would like to thank everyone who supported the teams, on and off the pitch, throughout the tournament, and looks ahead to building on this momentum in the matches to come.
